Abstract

Hyperpigmented nevus (HN) is not well known in the literature. It is due to excessive melanic pigment within the epidermis, with normal number of melanocytes. Clinically, HN is characterized by uniform brown color, variable but usually elongated shape, sharp and often indented borders. In the first period of life HN should be sometimes differentiated from initially scarcely pigmented and uniform in color congenital melanocytic nevus. The differential diagnosis is important from both esthetical and evolutive point of view, because HN cannot transform into melanoma.
