Abstract

The Authors report a patient affected by alopecia universalis, mental retardation and microcephaly, (AU-MR-M). This is the first case reported in ltaly. Besides the well-known clinical characteristics, the Authors underline the presence of anteverted ears. The histological findings of alopecia and the electroencephalographic changes are also reported. The differential diagnosis with alopecia areata universalis is also discussed, whereas the similarity with other cases of the syndrome reported in the literature is emphasized. Taking into account that the patient is the only case in the family, the Authors do not comment the autosomal recessive transmission attributed to the syndrome.
