How to use the Search window

All searches are case insensitive.

a) If the "Keywords only" box is unchecked, the following rules are available:

Search by Text
  1. Dermatitis: returns all articles containing the word “Dermatitis”
  2. Dermatitis Infancy: returns all articles containing both “Dermatitis” and “Infancy”
  3. Dermatitis and Infancy: same as the previous one
  4. Dermatitis or Infancy: returns all articles containing either “Dermatitis” or “Infancy”, or both
  5. not Dermatitis: returns all articles that do not contain “Dermatitis”
  6. Dermatitis and not (Atopic): returns all articles containing “Dermatitis” that do not contain “Atopic”
  7. Derma*: returns all articles that contain text starting with 'Derma' and followed by any group of characters, including no character – please note that the asterisk (*) may be used for left-hand truncation (e.g. “*titis”, returning articles containing “Dermatitis”, “Hepatitis”, etc.) or for both left- and right-hand truncation (e.g. “*derma*”, returning articles containing “Dermatitis”, “Scleroderma”, etc.)
  8. Any combination of the previous rules
Search by Author
  1. Orange: returns all articles whose author’s surname is “Orange”
  2. Orange Brown: returns all articles authored by both “Orange” and “Brown”
  3. Orange and Brown: same as the previous one
  4. Orange or Brown: returns all articles authored by either “Orange” or “Brown”, or by both
  5. not Orange: returns all articles that are not authored by “Orange”
  6. Orange and not Brown: returns all articles authored by “Orange” that are not co-authored by “Brown”
  7. Gr*: returns all articles whose author’s surname begins with "Gr" (Green, Gray..) and is followed by any group of characters, including no character – please note that the asterisk (*) may be used for left-hand truncation (e.g. “*een”) and for both left- and right-hand truncation (e.g. “*ree*”)
  8. Any combination of the previous rules

Please note that a combined search by both Text and Author will return only those articles that match the rules that have been used in both search fields.

b) If the "Keywords only" box is checked, the following rules are available:

Search by Text
  1. Infancy: returns all articles tagged with the keyword "Infancy"
  2. Multiple*: returns all articles tagged with a keyphrase starting with the word "Multiple” (e.g. “Multiple dermatofibromas”, “Multiple hemangiomatosis”, etc.)
  3. Multi*: returns all articles tagged with a keyword starting with “Multi” and followed by any group of characters, including no character (e.g. “Multiple dermatofibromas”, “Multiple hemangiomatosis”, “Multifocal hypopigmentation“ etc.) – please note that the asterisk (*) may be used for left-hand truncation (e.g. searching for “*oma” will return articles tagged with “neurofibroma”, “hemangioma”, etc.) and for both left- and right-hand truncation (e.g. searching for “*derma*” will return articles tagged with “Dermatofibroma”, “Atopic dermatitis”, “Neonatal dermatoses”, etc., but not those ragged with “Dermoscopy” etc.)
Search by Author
  1. Orange: returns all articles whose author’s surname is “Orange”
  2. Orange Brown: returns all articles authored by both “Orange” and “Brown”
  3. Orange and Brown: same as the previous one
  4. Orange or Brown: returns all articles authored by either “Orange” or “Brown”, or by both
  5. not Orange: returns all articles that are not authored by “Orange”
  6. Orange and not Brown: returns all articles authored by “Orange” that are not co-authored by “Brown”
  7.
