 | Aim of the Journal. The European Journal of Pediatric Dermatology (EJPD) is aimed at promoting communication and cultural exchange between pediatricians and dermatologists in the common field of pediatric dermatology. The Journal agrees to use the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.ICMJE.org).
Authors. When the Authors, who substantially contribute to the study, are more than one, their contribute should be specified and documented in the publication. Authors should certify that their report is original and not published in other publication before its appearance in the EJPD. If the study has been presented at a meeting, this should be indicated and documented in the publication. Authors should also state that there is no conflict of interest (see the forms at the next pages) with any financial organization regarding the material discussed in the manuscript. Contributors should be listed in acknowledgments with their specific contribution to the study.
Privacy and confidentiality. Studies involving human subject must have been approved by the Authors' Institutional Ethical Committee and require an informed consent of the patient (see the forms at the next pages). Numbers should be used instead of names or initials to identify patients. When clinical data or photos allow to identify patients, a written informed consent should be obtained and shown by the Authors. Studies involving animals should conform to the institutional and national guide for the care and use of laboratory animals (see the forms at the next pages).
Randomized trials should be submitted according to the CONSORT statement (http://www.consortstatement.org).
The reports must conform to the present structure of the Journal as follows: - a column of Differential Diagnosis where two similar dermatological disorders are schematically
compared, with at most two color photographs; its size must not exceed a normal typing sheet; - a Controversial column consisting of one and half pages, facing a clinical subject with contrasting opinions in the relevant literature; - an Editorial concerning frequent diseases of common interest. It must be 6 to 15 typed sheets with no more than 20 illustrations in color or black and white; - an original article of scientific research or concerning a rare clinical disorder. It must be 3 to 6 typed
sheets with not more than 8 illustrations in color or black and white; - a Pathology article of one and a half typed sheets, with 4 or 10 black and white photographs; - an Article regarding New Treatments of one and half typed sheets with no more than 2 photographs in color or black and white; - a column of Letters to the Editor of 10 to 20 lines.
Structure of the manuscript. Page 1 (Title page) should include the title, Authors’ full name, institutional affiliations and locations, name, mailing address, telephone, Fax and e mail of the designated correspondent Author. Moreover it should include a list of forms included and the name of 2 suggested reviewers (see the forms at the next pages). All the columns except for Differential Diagnosis, Letters and Short Cases must include a brief summary of ten lines at the most, key words. The abstract should
provide the background for the study and should state the study’s purposes, basic procedures, main findings and principal conclusions. It should finally emphasize new and important aspects of the study. For the key words terms from the Medical Subject Headings (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/meshhome.html) should be preferred. The text is usually divided according
to the IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion) structure. References must only include the Authors mentioned in the texts. Only the most significant reports, not more than 30, must be listed. References should be numbered consecutively in alphabetic order and identified in the text by the corresponding Arabic numerals in parentheses. Examples: Bonifazi E., Meneghini C.L. - Perinatal gangrene of the buttock: an iatrogenic or spontaneous condition? J. Am. Acad. Dermatol. 3, 596-8, 1980. Gifford G.E. - Interferon and the immune system. In: Waldmann R.H. ed. - Clinical concepts of immunology. Baltimore, 1979, The Williams & Wilkins Co., pp. 218-26. List all Authors when there are four or fewer. When there are five or more Authors, list the first three authors followed by “et Al.”. Papers must be written in English. The Editorial Board will provide the translation into Italian in order to publish them in the Italian and English edition of the European Journal of Pediatric Dermatology. For further datails regarding the structure of the text, the EJPD conforms to the rules of ICMJE (http://www.ICMJE.org).
Correspondence. The original page-numbered copy of the written manuscript and all supporting material plus two photocopies must be submitted to the Editor. A CD with the manuscript should also be supplied. For color photographs, submit transparencies (slides) and three sets of prints on glossy paper. The quality of the reproduction depends entirely on the quality of the illustration submitted. Top for each print (and transparency) must be noted. Figures may be also submitted in electronic format: images should be provided in TIF format on CD. Color images need to be CMYK, at least 300 DPI, and have an accompanying digital proof. Manuscripts in their final form should be submitted to: European Journal of Pediatric Dermatology, Atn. Prof. Ernesto Bonifazi Editor, Via Bitritto, 131 - 70124 Bari (Italy)
Electronic submission. Manuscripts can also be submitted by e-mail to the address as follows: ejpd@dermatologiapediatrica.com. In the latter event, high resolution images in TIF format should be submitted on CD to the above mentioned address, together with 3 digital printed proofs of the images.
Procedure for review. The corresponding Author will be informed about the initial receipt of the manuscript, usually by e mail on the same day of its arrival. The editorial staff will review the manuscript and send it to at least 2 internationally famous reviewers, possibly chosen among those ones suggested by the Authors. The Authors will receive the suggestions and comments of the reviewers and should conform to the latter, giving the relevant changes to their original manuscript and sending these changes possibly by e mail. Proofs will be directly read by the Editorial Board who reserves the right to make minor modifications to the text, and to publish only high quality illustrations. When accepted, papers, photographs and other illustrations will be published free of charge. The first Author of the report will receive user name and password allowing free access to the on line version. The reproduction, even partial, of papers or photographs and other illustrations is not allowed without
specific and written permission from the Editors.
